The Festival of Latin American Contemporary Choreographers
at Dance Mission in San Francisco, CA
November 15th and 16th at 8:00pm
"Sly, subtle and totally virtuosic, theatrical dancer-choreographer Gabriel Mata holds the stage with expressive movement and witty words...."
As an artist activist, choreographer, and performer, I focus on revealing and removing the facade that choreography instills on dance. As an artist activist, I use talking dances to expose the artist/person in the moment along with silenced realities and awareness to current unrest. As a choreographer, I am focused on creating engaging work that can be relatable and understood, In performance, my work is a form of protest and exposure to the treatment of artist and people. With a modern vision and my own experiences, I aim to create dances that takes risk to the audience, breaks down the facade that choreography imposes, speaks truthfully, is relatable, and humanistic.
